1. Start each morning with a big juicy slice of Watermelon – its in Season now and so Yummy! Watermelon is very alkalising, low in sugar and very hydrating – perfect for long hot summers.
2. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to your favourite smoothie or muesli – it will help balance your blood sugar levels and pancreas, and stop you craving sweet festive treats.
3. Before the party – Have a protein smoothie – add your favourite protein powder, nuts, chia seeds, acai or spirulina, and some low G.I. fruits – blend with almond milk or coconut water-YUM! You will feel full and satisfied and be less likely to snack on deep fried or sugary snacks at the party.
AT the Party –
4. Choose foods high in protein – nuts, cheese, meats, hommus etc. Instead of potato chips and deep fried snacks – choose vegetable sticks and baked crackers.
5. Add soda water and ice to your glass of wine. Mix spirits with soda/tonic rather than coke or lemonade.
6. Have a tall glass of water between each drink
7. Carry a bottle of digestive enzymes in your bag at all times. Take 1 with finger food or 2 with a meal. This will help you digest and absorb your food properly, and limit heartburn/indigestion.
8. Make a jug of iced tea and keep it in the fridge. A great blend is – Peppermint, lemon and cinnamon. Its cooling, alkalising and great to get rid of bloating/flatulence after that big meal!
Exercise-
9. When youre on holidays and away from your regular exercise routine – don’t let it slide! Grab a family member or friend and go for a long beach or bush walk- either early morning or late arvo, or between courses! Its a great way to have a chat, catch up on old times or clear the air.
10. Have FUN with your exercise! Go for a swim in the river or in the Ocean (If you live where there are no stingers!), or have a dance with your friend or your lover! Dancing is fantastic exercise.
